Our Commitment to Responsible Gambling
Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation's commitment to the people of Nova Scotia is to ensure our province has the most progressive and responsible gaming industry in the world. That means increased education through social marketing programs, responsible gambling education programs and developing new tools such as Betstopper, a world-first Internet content-blocking software.
It means making bold changes to our operations, such as reducing accessibility through the removal of 1,000 Video Lottery Terminals. And it means increased research, such as: the world's first field testing of interactive responsible gambling features, to help us make evidence-based decisions that are in the best interest of our Province.
Progressive programs are our responsible gambling hallmark. We're proud of this. Through our steadfast commitment to finding and delivering innovative and effective programs, we have become a recognized world leader in responsible gambling. But what we're most proud of is the difference these programs are making here at home.
In 2010-11, NSGC spent $6.6 million on prevention, treatment and education, of which $4.1 million was distributed to the Department of Health and Wellness and $0.6 million to Gambling Awareness Nova Scotia. The remainder was allocated to more than a dozen responsible gambling and youth prevention programs throughout the province that directly reached over 99,000 Nova Scotians.
